One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - Film

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Arguably, one of the best films i have seen in quite some time. I read the book in high school, but had never seen the film until last night. Just a few days ago i realized that you can rent movies from the SPU library... duh... so i scanned their little selection.
As soon as I saw that this was on the shelf, I was so excited. Free viewing of an incredible film.
(ps, I recommend renting movies through your local library. Though you may have to wait a bit longer to get what you want, it still is free!)

This story is so magnificent. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson) fakes insanity to transfer out of prison and into a state mental hospital. He expects something more along the lines of a vacation until his time in the pen is up. But he gets so much more than he bargained for. His restless, wild personality thoroughly shakes up the ward. The character development of not only McMurphy, but each of the men in the ward, and the devious nurse Ratched, is phenominal. I would say that Ratched is one of the most powerful villians in film history, or at least of the films i have seen in my lifetime. The hidden commentary on society's treatment of people deemed "mentally ill" is beautiful and sincere. It's just a fantastic film all around.
My favorite character in the book and in the film has to be the Chief. His quite presence is so powerful and moving. If you haven't ever seen this movie, i would recommend you run down to your local library and rent it now!

That movie was shot at the State Mental Hospital in Salem. I used to deliver pizza there. Another film I saw around the same time as Cuckoo's nest was Amadeus. Have you ever watched that?
