Music Mondays: The Pains of Being Young at Heart

(filmed at the Capitol Hill Block Party)
Yesterday I went to the Capitol Hill Black Party (in Seattle). For $25 I think I definitely got my money's worth. My favorite performances were Sonic Youth (of course...classic), The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and The Noisettes.
I had never heard the Pains of Being Pure at Heart before, shame on me. Patrick, who is the ring leader of the band I am in (The Mopes), really digs them. After hearing about 20 seconds of them I was in love. A few times, the singing was a little off pitch. But other than that, it was perfect. If our band could open for them, I would be in heaven. ps, The Mopes are going into the studio to record our EP in the coming week!
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart remind me of the best classic pop music, dreamy guitar and sweet and simple lyrics. I'd say they flow pretty nicely with the sounds of Camera Obscura, Belle and Sebastian, and other twee pop/jangle pop sorts of sounds. Reminiscent of 1980's Irish/English pop. Listen to them, and love them!

wow you're so lucky
to see not only sonic youth but
the pains of being pure at heart too
when I first heard them I thought
of all the jangly twee and shoegazer
bands I love from the late 80s
early 90s like McCarthy
i'd love to see them and your band live if you ever come to the UK
too play i'll be there at the front
