Lost My Job...

oh dear
my flickr.

It appears as though I lost my job yesterday.  I juggle a lot of jobs, being a freelance illustrator, being an artists assistant, running an etsy shop, singing in a band... But my most consistent job, the one that always holds me steady when everything else fluctuates is nannying.   I night time babysit for a ton of families around Seattle off and on, but my consistent nanny job is for an awesome family with a 5 month old during the daytime.  I nanny 8am-5pm on Mon, Tues, and Thurs.  That is my main source of income at the moment.  And yesterday, the momma came home crying saying that she got laid off from her job.  Broke my heart.
And when a mom gets laid off from her job, that means her nanny is no longer needed.  Aka, Moorea doesn't have a stable job anymore.

So now I need to figure out what to do.  I am in process of building up my Etsy shop with tons of new things for my big Relaunch Party on June 11th, but until then, I wont be making any money from that.  And the artist I work for doesn't have any big projects coming up soon, so there is no work there.

Basically, I only have freelance Illustration and Graphic Design going for me right now.  Now, this is the job I would ultimately like to be doing all the time rather than nannying.  But I need your help in getting me there!  If you need a blog make-over, a new blog header, a blog button or two, a new etsy banner, some illustrations for your website or business, a illustrated portrait of you or someone you love, illustrations of your favorite objects or treasures, anything and everything, I would love to help you out with that.  I'd especially love to work for you if you are encouraged to help me stay afloat in trying to figure out if I can pursue my dreams, or if I have to go back to nannying.
You can check out my portfolio here:  Moorea's Porfolio!  Or check out my flickr: Moorea's Flickr!

Friends, I am asking for your help and advice.  I am avoiding a melt down at all costs.  Must push forward!

oh dear me

You'll get through it! Hang in there. I was in the same position several months ago and things prevailed. I made it through. Little projects that offered some money came up and I found a job. Thinking of you, hold you head up!

Sorry. I'm in a similar place, but if my ship comes in before yours I will need a Big Cartel shop banner-and you will be my only choice. Strength and peace...

Hey Moorea
Sorry to hear about the job thing... I cant imagine... but hey, theres something I might be able to have you help me with. I dont know how much I can afford to pay you or what your rate is but I just got my own domain name and made my own website: lyndsayroyer.com i love to design and illustrate as well but to be honest.... im horrible at making websites. i have adobe cs4 but dont know my way around fireworks, dreamworks and kinda flash very well. is there anyway you could help me with my website? and theres a chance i'll be in seattle next weekend where i might be able to pay you there... but it all depends on how much your wanting... BUT i do want to help! i hope this is a good way to get ahold of you :)

I'm so sorry. I understand somewhat, I've had my hours drastically reduced since December. I don't have a ton to spend, but I would love to hire you for some consulting, because I really have no idea how to stay on top of my internet "business"/brand image/etc etc etc. I'm going to think about this some more!!

I'm so sorry to hear that! I'm sorry that I don't need anything done, but you're the first one I'll come to if I think of anything.

I'm sorry about not being able to nanny. But you know what they say. When a door closes, another opens. Keep working towards what you love to do all the time, and you'll succeed! I'm rooting for you!
