Have you been wondering how to pronounce my name?
Check out the video and I'll tell you how, plus I'll tell you a little bit about where I am from and why my voice sounds the way it does. I've been seeing these regional dialect videos popping up all over the place and I decided, ya know, I should jump on board with this. Check it. And yes, I felt like I was on the verge of laughing for the entire time that i was filming. :)
Ps. I mentioned my friend Allie's blog. Go check her out. She is one of my besties!

Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught
Now answer these questions:

Hi, Moorea! I'm Mattie. I'm a new reader. Loved watching this video!! Love your humor, and I'm very proud of you for pronouncing New Orleans correctly ;) (I'm from Baton Rouge!).
ReplyDeleteHave a good day!
ADORBS!
ReplyDeleteyou're so cute! & I've been saying your name right all along. go me! :)
ReplyDeleteyou're kind of the raddest. ever. i liked this. i like you. and i like the thing in your hair. i want it.
ReplyDeleteand thank youuuu for making it known that there is more to california than beaches and tan people (i am not one of them) and hollywood and all that stuff. i spent a lot of my childhood in the mountains and i LOVE it, it's dear to my heart. people should know that there is actually snow and weather and mountains and forests in this great state. ;) and i say soda, too. pop? wha? no. it's soda. the end.
super glad i stumbled across your blog tonight! i'm trying to plan a video blog for a travel writing contest and needed a bit of inspiration! and i love the work you've done for freckled nest... i'm hoping to redesign my blog sometime this year and might be contacting you!
ReplyDeleteLOVE that you picked your own name!
ReplyDelete- Tee-peeing
- Potato bug
- POP!!!
- Tennis shoes
- "Hey"???
- I HAVE NO IDEA... I hate spiders so much.
- Grandma & Grandpa
- Cart
- I don't think there's a word for that...?
- Remote
This is very confusing. Some of these I don't know the answer to. But I'm glad you don't say "warsh." Or pronounce "ruin" as "roon." That drives me insane.
This is awesome, Moorea! I always love to see videos of the people whose blogs I follow because it's always a nice surprise to hear how they actually sound! The new headbands are beautiful as well. :]
ReplyDeleteHaha I loved capital LOVED your video. So funny! And you are so cute. P.s I love your name. The end.
ReplyDelete<3
Also, I like you even more knowing you grew up so close to Tahoe! I grew up in Reno, Nevada which was about 30 minutes from Tahoe. I miss it. Alright I'm talking too much. BAI.
ReplyDeleteyou also forgot to mention that not everyone in california is tan and blonde
ReplyDeleteand you're a babe.
Haha, I loved watching your video - and super interesting story about your name. It's funny how people think that California is all 80 degree weather all the time, beaches, sunshine and celebrities. I prefer the mountained and wooded area of California, with less people, so much more over that :)
ReplyDeletethis is the cutest video ive ever seen
ReplyDelete<3
you lady, are adorable. but I don't detect one ounce of an accent. sounds perf!
ReplyDeletei've watched a few of these and you totally win the cuteness award. think you're like 100 times more awesome now :)

ReplyDeleteYou're so funny! I love your voice :D
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this! Like I tweeted, I want to do one now ESPECIALLY to show how my name is pronounced, no one EVER gets it right at first. :)
ReplyDeleteps-I knew how to say yours right, woohooo
adorable.
ReplyDeleteand i agree w/ kelly ann. definitely SODA :) where does this pop nonsense come into play? right on the border of CA and OR? haha. it's so interesting to see the difference in how people pronounce words, or what they call certain things, simply based on region! love it.
Haha cute. People in Utah call SODA pop all the time. It was a pet peeve when I was living there. I want to do one! It'll have to wait though, we're about to move.
ReplyDelete"What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?" I've always called them sun showers.
Yeah I don't understand when people say "pop". It still hasn't stuck with me. I mean...a balloon pops? Pop Goes the Weasel? Soda from a soda CAN makes sense :).
ReplyDeleteHello! Love your blog. You pronounced everything the same way as I would. I am from New Orleans and you even got that one right! I can't stand when people say Nawlins. I just moved to Boston... now THESE people have weird pronunciations!
ReplyDeleteAnd here are my answers:
- Roll or TP
- Doodle Bug
- Soda
- Tennis Shoes
- Y'all
- Daddy Long Legs
- Maw Maw and Paw Paw
- Shopping Cart
- Pretty

ReplyDeleteyou're silly, hehe. i have been meaning to tell people how to pronounce my name in my videos but i never remember! like yours, mine is a tough one and all my life people have found interesting ways to pronounce it.
ReplyDeleteWow I am so glad that you pronounced your gorgeous name for us!! I was pronouncing it as Moor-ray and I love how YOU say it SO much better. Quite good name choosing taste for a 9 year old!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's so strange that your 'accent' is a blend of Brittish, Californian and Washingtonian... yet I feel like you pronounce everything pretty much exactly how I do and I'm from Michigan! I'll have to do this too and see if people think I sound Cannadian since I'm from Northern Michigan. We get that sometimes.
this vlog was so much fun!! i think i might have to brave my first vlog every and play along someday soon. :)
ReplyDeleteI love that you picked your own name.... and such a pretty one!

So lucky that you got to pick your own name! My name is Ashley and I have never thought it fit me properly either. My mom's favorite saop opera character was Ashley so that's where I got it. I also once had 7 other Ashley's in a math class with me in middle school which was pretty annoying.
ReplyDeleteYou are too cute and way funny girly. :)
Love your sense of humour, love your silliness, can't believe I have been living so long without your blog! Nice to meet you Moorea!
ReplyDeleteaw you are so cute! i call the carbonated drink soda too! i went to college in buffalo ny and they all said pop. i was like, nooo its soda! hehe
ReplyDeleteI watched this after reading your bullying post and I can totally see why the man gave you the note, you are captivating to watch and so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love that you changed your name, I've always liked having a different name myself.
Very cute post!
ReplyDeleteI have to answer the "What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?" question. From as far back as I can remember, my parents would always tell me "The Devil is beating his wife!" so that's what I say when the sun is shining and it's raining. :) From several trips up North (I'm an East Texan), I've come to learn this is a more Southern saying. As stereotypical as this may sound, I do also say "y'all" for a group of people and call most any carbonated drink "Coke."
I love it... fanastic... i just had to share here in Australia we say it a SUNSHOWER "when rain falls while the sun is shining"
ReplyDeleteThat's so awesome! I wish my mom would allow me to change my name. Haha.
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed this Moorea, there has been much mystery surrounding the pronounciation of your name, and also your accent! Thanks for the video, make me smile a whole lot!
ReplyDeleteBy the way - "What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?"
- A MONKEY'S BIRTHDAAYYYYYYYY!!!!
(Don't ask me why - it's what my boyfriend's Grandpa said to him when he was a little boy!)
Katie. xxx
Fun! I think we say a lot of things the same way (except that it IS called pop!). ;P I have always lived in Oregon, so I think a lot of it is pretty regional.
