I'm Back! And Here's What I'm Wearing...

Well a huge huge thank you is needed for my lovely friends who were kind enough to do some guest posts for me this week!  I think it was fun getting to see what some of my favorite blog friends decided to post about.  Getting to chat with them and brainstorm ideas of what might do well on my blog was really fun and gave me a refreshing new view of some things I'd like to add, change, re-structure, and enhance on my blog an in my posts.  Taking breaks can really clear your mind :)

As for my far too long span of being sick... it is almost over!  I just have some left over nose and throat yucky/ouchiness happening, but it's no biggie.  I was majorly whiped out for days & days and, man, even my mind felt seriously out of wack for for daaaaays.  I couldn't work for a week, not only because my body felt so awful, but my mind just felt so out of it.  Thankfully, for the last week, as I've been giving myself time to refocus on work and new strategies for work and living, my mind has been getting clearer and clearer.  And because I had time away from work, I was finally able to see lots of ways in which I can improve my work habits, ways in which I can take care of myself better, and areas of life that I need to balance better.  It's funny how sometimes the seemingly worst situations like being super sick can turn into good ones where they teach you something that you've been needing to learn for a long time.  I've learned I really need to take better care of myself and I need to make new ground rules and plans for myself in my work habits.  Well, and starting counseling in the last 2 weeks has helped me recognize new areas of growth and need for change in my life as well, but we'll talk about that later this week :)

Isn't this belt rad?  Now, I'll tell you where I got it, but I bet at least a few of you are going to be grossed out.  I found it in a dumpster!  Well, it was just sitting right on top of a dumpster.  I was walking down the streets of Long Beach, CA with a friend one night a few years ago, coming back from a dance party / fashion show, and we saw a bunch of rad stuff just sitting on top of a dumpster.  I was like, snap, that is a good lookin' belt.  I'm taking it!  And sterilizing it :)  And wearing it!  It must me the Northwestern tomboy in me that doesn't really care about how weird a dumpster belt may be.  Have you see the Portlandia dumpster diving sketch?  Well, I'm not that bad.  And I've never been that into dumpster diving.  But I do have a good percentage of friends who live to dumpster dive and the Portlandia sketch is a hilariously true representation, haha.

Something I've been really craving in the past couple weeks and months is to be able to see my aesthetic really shining clearly through what I wear, how I style my space, basically anything I see that is meant to be a visual representation of me, I want it to not just whisper Moorea but I want it to solidly scream, this is Moorea!  I think my closet is getting there.  I'm starting to realize that leather shoes are in my top 10 favorite things ever.  I have 7 pairs of leather boots of all heights and styles.  flat boots, military styled boots, tall lace up boots, lots of leather boots!  And these little leather oxfords are some of my favorite flat shoes, extending my love for leather shoes out from the world of boots and into the realm of ...not boots?  haha.

I'm starting to really see what jewelry feels most like me thanks to designing jewelry for the past 2 years.  It has really been in the last 6 months that I have felt like, wow, the jewelry I make REALLY feels like me.  I love it.  The double brass ring above is one that I made in my metalsmithing class that I just finished last week.  I'm so bummed the class only ran for about 2 months.  But it was great and really made me believe that I have a unique voice in my work and I CAN make anything if I just have access to the right tools.  This double ring has immediately become my favorite ring.  I love the simplicity balanced with a quiet edginess.  I'll have to take some more photos of it and show you some of my other projects from the class!

Moorea,

Glad to see you are feeling better, and have some clearer perspectives.

you're right, sometimes you need to be told to rest and re-think what your body and soul need.

I am glad to hear your new thoughts, and realizations.

I appreciate all of your nice comments! The kindness of the blogging community is really wonderful <3

...and I really don't understand why people leave mean, criticizing comments. All mean comments will be deleted. Whoever said "not an outfit fan. you look awkward." Your opinion is ok, and you are free to criticize me. But my blog is a space to build each other up, not to rip each other down. I know I am awkward, and I am ok with it. I am human. :)

Once again, thank you all of you kind hearted bloggers who leave encouraging notes. I sincerely appreciate your warmth, love, and acceptance. <3

love, Moorea

Hi pretty friend!

You. Look. So. LOVELY. Shoes? Fantastic. Belt? I WANT. That's not gross, at least to me it's not. It's amazing what some people will throw away. I have a little vintage blue loveseat that I ADORE, that I found behind a dumpster. I can't imagine someone wanting to part with it!

So happy you're feeling better and refreshed! xo.

I think you are so right about finding the silver lining in time of illness. When I was in the hospital, waiting and recovering, I had too much time to think!

Glad you're feeling better and with a super cute outfit!

I personally love your wardrobe posts because you seem more natural and comfortable with who you are than some of the others I've seen. And I like your style!

Hey Moorea! I love your ring. I have one just like it by Erica Anenberg. So cool that you can make your own. I wear mine like, everyday. I would make make one in every color.

Very cute outfit! It looks very spring-y to me, but then again I live in Oregon, so we have very similar weather to you guys. Lol. I realized as I was reading this that I have no leather shoes and I really should! I love the look of them. I'll have to keep my eye out for some.
