Going Natural: Body Products that Won't Harm You!

I feel really lucky that I have become both blog friends and real life friends with one of my favorite bloggers, Katie from I Go By Katie.  Katie lives about an hour and a half from my hometown in Nothern California, where the rest of my family still lives.  I've gotten to hang out with her twice in the past 2 months thanks to much needed visits home to see family and to attend a wedding.

Something I really admire and love about Katie is that she is really adamant about using as natural of products as she can find, especially products that go on the body.  I've always had quiet concerns over what those crazy chemical names are that are labeled on the back of my lotions or make-up.  But I haven't made too much of an effort to seek out more natural options, other than switching over to Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps, pictured below, which are awesome, clean, natural soaps containing only a few ingredients and are super yummy smelling.  They lather really well so you only need a few drops.   I use this soap for body wash, handwash, and shaving ye ol/ legs.  I use the Peppermint scented and my boyfriend uses the Almond scented.  I'm going to try the Rose soap next!  Yum.  )

Anyway, when I got to hangout with Katie recently, she told me about all the products she uses and I was super intrigued to test some of them out.  So she sent me an amazingly awesome package with lots of samples of natural and lovely things!  Katie is rad.  Thank you for the thoughtful gifts, Katie!

The chap stick pictured above is my new faaavorite thanks to Katie.  Mmm, it is so smooth and tasty and safe for your skin.  The air in Seattle is SUPER dry in the summer so I've been lathering this on all day everyday.  Yum yum yum.  I've also been loving the Bariani olive oil lotion she sent me.  At first I thought, eek, "I have termpermental oily & dry skin.  I feel like that lotion would make me break out." But I've actually recently discovered that because my skin is so sensitive, it mostly breaks out when I use products with too many chemicals which irritate my skin.  The purity of the olive oil lotion really helps balance my skin and keeps it feeling light and fresh.

To test out some of these products:  Dr. Hauschka - chap stick + facial care set, Pure Soap - soap bar, Bariani - Olive oil lotion, Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps

Be sure to visit Katie's blog to read more about what natural products she recommends.

I love all these products! My mother is really big into natural skin care remedies, and when I was little I thought she was really weird for making me use all this stuff. Now that I'm older I realize she is the smartest woman I know haha! I love katie's blog too :) Thanks for the suggestions!

I'm really interested in trying out the Dr. Bronner's soap. I've known several people who have used that line and it seems worthwhile! I tried some samples of the Dr. Hauschkaface scrub and lotion, but I couldn't really get over the smell. Great post though, Moorea! I love your blog and Katie's so this was right up my alley!

It was SO sweet of her to send you such a thoughtful gift! I am slowly transitioning to more and more natural products. I'm not one for peppermint, but that rose soap is going on my must-try list.

about 18months ago I threw out all my makeup and beauty products and started over, because i found out that lots of products have really nasty animal bits and pieces in ~ eg most blushers and lipsticks and eyeshadows have carmine [aka cochineal aka crushed beetles] in them. i now use only natural body, face and makeup products, and even take my own shampoo to the hairdressers! even though at first i did it for ethical animal reasons, the benefits of going natural are now a huge part of it. my skin is better, my whole wellbeing is better in fact!
so happy you are dipping your toe in the natural pool :-)

This is a great post. I'm a little obsessed with "lotions and potions" and have tried to use safe, natural, cruelty-free products since high school. I recently got in to Dr. Bronner's myself! I use Almond, but my next scent I want to try is Rose as well. :) I've heard great things about Dr. Hauschka products, and now I REALLY want to try them! And I'll definitely put the other products on my list as well.

I love Dr. Bronner's, too. At home I use it for bodywash, handsoap in each bathroom, dishwashing, and laundry soap. I also looove LUSH products for my face. Most are vegan, organic and paraben free. I think i'd give Bronner's a bigger grade if their packaging was BPA-free.

Off to check out Dr. Hauschka on amazon!

Dr. Bronner's is my favorite! I love how tingly it feels on my skin and I just invested in the lavender scent. Oh my word, it's SO lovely to smell like lavender through the day!
