My Style, My Space

I've decided to start a new little series on my blog called My Style, My Space.  It's all about how your fashion sense and personal styling relates to your space.  I will be starting it off this week with a little peek into my living room.  If you are interested in submitting your own My Style, My Space to be featured on my blog, please email me at mooreaseal{at)gmail.com.  Make sure you have a variety of photos that include your chosen space in your house or office and what you wore that complimented the space and reflects your style.  I'm excited to start featuring some of my favorite bloggers and their spaces soon too :)

Dress and belt from Papaya
Brass double ring made by me, Raw Pyrite Ring c/o Minerology, Triangle rings by Stone & Honey.

I would say that over the years, my style has changed a million times over.  But in the past year or two, I've come to especially appreciate both fashion items and household items that are either earth toned or of a neutral color palette, clean and chic in their design but have little details that make them unique, and a balance of a feminine sophistication with a woodsy edge.  The white piece of art above is a piece that I made in college for my senior art show.  I used an exacto knife to cut out the words to a song I wrote from one large sheet of watercolor paper.  It took 30 hours and every single word is connected to the next in one stream.  I was patient back then! :)  I love that the piece at first appears really simple and pale, but when you get up close, you realize the complexity of the work put into it and the detail of the carefully placed hand cut lettering.  I have 2 of these pieces and I think they are some of my most favorite art I've ever made.

My boyfriend and I got some free cactus off of craigslist a few months ago and I just love my plants.  I love nature indoors, but placed in a setting where the natural elements feel like little art objects.  I like to think of my shoes as little art objects too, the cherry on top of any outfit.  And most of my shoes are the color of those terracotta pots actually.  I'm a leather shoe junkie.  I'm happy my roommates and I decided not to paint our walls because I just love the freshness of white walls and white and cream colored clothes, like the cream colored dress I'm wearing in the first photo.
I used to have really severe cystic acne for many years.  Now that I have found remedies to my skin problem, my skin is mostly clear but I do have a lot of little scars along my jaw line.  Thankfully, I have lots of freckles which blend in with my scars.  And I try not to mask over my freckles and flaws with cake-y foundation and powders.  I just use a bronzer all over my face and I use it as blush because it gives just enough brightness to my face without overdoing it.  I prefer my face, my outfits, and my space to all have a fresh natural feel, simply highlighting the prettiest elements and not worrying too much if the raw and flawed bits show a little too. :)

I hope you enjoyed this little peek into my space and my personal style.  It was fun realizing how my personal styling and interior styling relate!

Moorea! What an awesome series. Sometimes I feel overwelhmed when I look at Pinterest or design blogs and think "my house could never look like that." Knowing this series will be full of people I "know" will make everything seem more doable and authentic.

It's nice to get a peek into a fellow bloggers home and see how their personal style translates. :)

What a great idea for a series! I totally agree that a person's personal style and space often relate - especially as artists - I don't think we can help it! This is really fun to see and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series as well! :-)

I agree with the first commenter: It can be overwhelming to see so much great style (online) and fret that I can't measure up. But I remind myself that I don't have to be everything, I just have to be ME. Great series, Moorea!!! I'm looking forward to this!

i love the idea of 'my style, my space'. i think we are total opposites when it comes to dressing as i'm quite quirky but slightly feminine.

i also only wear bronzer on the skin because i find that foundation is quite harsh on my skin, so i only use it as a concealer to cover up scars and spots. :)

i love your home though, its lovely. :)

Hi, just wondering what treatments or medicine you took to get rid of your acne as it has obviously worked REALLY well because your skin is flawless!! Very jealous! :)

it's interesting how much your style and space are connected. At least your living room that is. Wow. My space is too small for my style.

I'll think about submitting. Just because it sounds like a good style figuring out exercise and it would be fun to share naturally.

thanks for the little sneak peek.
