I adore and admire my dad beyond words. If there was anyone in the world that I wanted to be like, it would be my dad. He has had an incredible roller coaster of a life but through it all, he has always been a kind and compassionate person. He understands people on a deeper level than anyone else I have ever met. His reason is sound, and his heart is enormous.
He understands me on every level, relates to me in ways that most others can't, protects me from harm but trusts in my strength to let me make mistakes. He has always given me freedom and empowerment to be exactly who I want to be and to believe in what I feel moved to believe in. He has always told me he has faith that I can do whatever I set my mind to. I believes in me and his love knows no boundaries. He believes in change and progress, instilling in me that I always have the choice to be my best self, and he respects teachings of the past & value in learning from history. He is the greatest father I could ever imagine, not only to me, but to my sisters, to the young men and hundreds of surrogate brothers I have known throughout my life who needed a fatherly mentor and role model, to every member of my Dad's congregation that he consoles, protects, encourages and mentors, to anyone who has ever met him and been engaged in conversation with him. He is the greatest teacher because he understands that in teaching, mentoring, and loving others, he too learns something about himself, others, and a greater vision of truth and compassion.
I wouldn't be myself if I didn't have my dad as my father. I am proud of me and happy with who I am because he gave me a foundation to learn how to love myself as I grew up. He understands me when I hurt, he understands HOW I feel because our hearts are the same and we feel a deep compassionate hurt for others in the same way. Our spirits are rare, as everyone's are, but we get each other. And there is no greater feeling than knowing someone simply understands you and loves you for all that you are.
Dad, you are my hero and my light. I relate to you more deeply than anyone. Thank you for loving me and for teaching me how to love others boundlessly. I am me because of you. Happy Father's Day <3
( My dad has had to go to the ER 4 times this week because of Kidney Stones and he has never been in so much physical pain in his life as he has been in this week. He had to spend the night in the hospital last night and woke up in the Hospital on Father's Day. Please pray or send well wishes that he feels better soon. I hate seeing him suffer. )
