Welcome to the last stop on my house tour, my bedroom! First thing to note, the banner in the image above is once that I hand made for my booth at craft fairs and street fairs. I printed out each letter on individual pages of plain old white paper. I then cut out each letter and then traced around them onto pieces of leather. I used an exacto knife to cut out the leather letters. Then I just punched two holes in the top of each letter and used jump rings to attached each letter to a long gold colored chain. I cut 2 long thin pieces of leather to use as string to attach each end of the banner to nails in the wall. I only have it up in my room for the winter since it is way too cold/rainy outside in Seattle to be doing street fairs right now. So don't worry folks, I'm not so incredibly vain that I made a banner of my name to just hang in my bedroom :) It will be back up on my booth once it is warm enough again for street fairs!
The pattern on the wall is actually just a material that I tacked to the wall to add some color to my room. I have one wall along my room that is a big long closet with two doors going into it. The ceilings are raised so there is a weird long space above the doors that looked kind of lonely and sad. So I just tacked up this material and the wall looks a million times better. Since it is so high on the wall, you can't even tell it is just tacked on with a few push pins :)

I don't have much extra cash to spend on decor, so I use the prettiest clothes and accessories I own to decorate my walls! I posted a photo of the main wall of my room a few months ago on my blog, but here are a few more views. I wear mostly fall colored, warm toned clothing or neutral greys, blacks, and whites. And I like my bedroom to feel warm and cozy too, so the color of my clothing and the layers of materials hanging on the walls makes me feel so comfy, cozy, and calm in my bedroom.

Half of my books have been sitting in boxes in the back of my car for a few months... oops. I just didn't want to buy a bookcase because I have no where to put it. So one day I thought, ooh, I'll stack my books on either side of my dresser! I love how it looks. And really, it's not a hassle to get a book out from the stack. It only take a moment to remove a few layers of books, pull the book I want out, and put the stack back on the top. I have a big collection of art books that I adore and have been collecting since I was a little girl, dreaming of becoming an artist. I love being able to look over at my stacks of books and remember when I bought each one and why each one is special to me in becoming the woman I am today.

These are two of my most favorite treasures in my room, my antlers were given to me by my boyfriend and my "Road to Success" poster given to me by my Dad. My Dad gave me some antlers too this Christmas but I am saving them to put up the next space I move to, probably in the coming fall. It is so special to me that the two most important men in my life understand me and my aesthetic so well. My dad has always been an incredible gift giver and so thoughtful, and this poster is such a score. Its a re-print of a post first created in1913. You can see a clear picture of it here and can read about the story depicted in the poster through the same link.
My antlers from my boyfriend are such a special treasure. He knows me so well and has a great eye for design. My style is a bit more wacky than him but we both can critique the aesthetic of something together... brutally, haha. I was so super excited when he gave this to me. Both he and my Dad got me antlers for Christmas and I was equally as thrilled each time I opened up my presents! I don't keep track of pointing out what I like when I'm just chatting about stuff that I think is cool. But Max and my Dad are good at recognizing what inspires me and that really means a lot to me. I'm a lucky lady. There is nothing that makes me feel more special than knowing someone I love seeks to understand me, you know, as much as a person can understand another. We're all pretty complex!

Thank you for visiting my home this week! I hope it has been fun seeing all of these peeks into my spaces. One thing to note for sure is that my roommate is the champion of finding incredible vintage pieces. And I guess my forte is working with what I have on a tiny budget to still fill a space. What makes your space unique, do you have any tips and tricks?

thanks! its a free way to jazz up your space :)
DeleteI love that you decorate your walls with the things you already own. That is so creative and I have been enjoying these last posts. I am still working on making my space unique and I know what you mean about not having enough funds to furnish and decorate a space. I absolutely love what you did with your bedroom. It gave me an idea of how I can get more creative with my own space.

I'm so glad! I feel your pain, I have NO money to put into decorating. its all about getting creative with what you have :)
DeleteVery cool room. I love how you used your clothes and accessories as wall art. I also love how you stacked the books next to your dresser. You're a very creative girl, and definitely have an eye for design. Lovely space.

thanks so much!
DeleteI love how your books look too! If I did that I think my stacks would go up to the ceiling : / But it really does look cool. Maybe I'll try it on a smaller scale some day : ]
ReplyDeleteAnd as for my space being unique? It definitely is in a class all its own. I'm pretty much a non-practicing hoarder (true fact: I have hoarding tendencies!) so my walls are covered with loads of pictures and posters. And my shelves are full of books and nick nacks. You could play I-Spy in my room for sure. It's very me though--bright and full of cute things and only slightly funky.
As long as it reflects who you are as a person, a living space can look great no matter what it looks like. That's my tip ; ]
I think it could look kind of cool to have a stack of books that reaches the ceiling!
Deletesure been enjoying your home tour!

DeleteI love the idea of the books stacked up next to the dresser. You seem to have done a lot with not a lot of space or 'stuff' so the stuff that is around is clearly very special to you. I like it a lot ;)

Hi Moorea - I love your personal features and seeing your surroundings! Who takes your photos for you? They are really good quality. In my imagination, you walk around with a 24hr photographer/stylist :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Aisling!
DeleteFor the tour of my house, my friend Kristen Marie from http://www.iamkristenmarie.com shot all the photos. We did this shoot for a feature in NEET magazine which you can check out here: http://www.neetmagazine.com/. All of the other photos on my blog though I shoot myself. I just use a timer on my camera if I am doing outfit posts :)
