Matt Corby

Just some pretty music to play in the background of your day.  I'm so shocked this kid was on Australian Idol.  He's gone on tour with Elbow, who I LOVE, and is on a label owned by one of the dudes in Mumford & Sons.  Matt Corby can siiiing!  I sang classical music for many years and went to at least 100 different competitions through out high school.  And good god, this dude as a beautiful beautiful crisp falsetto soprano range and a really rad and unique raspy but strong lower range.  He can do some really difficult technical tricks with his voice while still conveying something real and soulful and isn't afraid to stray away from the technical beauty to do something gritty and raw.  As someone who did years and years of technical voice training, I have to say it is so hard to get really good at that aspect of singing and then have to unlearn it to try and find a rough and natural sound in your voice, finding pure emotion behind the technical tricks. I think this dude wins for best vocalist skillz.

I'm so into Matt right now - as is everyone! Lots of Aussie music on your playlist, Miss Moorea! If you're interested in checking out some more, try a couple of bands from my home town - The Art of Sleeping, St Petersberg, Holland, Enter Existence. I highly recommend them!!
