52 Lists // Week 1

Welcome to the very beginning of the 52 Lists Project, and hey there, I'm Moorea Seal!
I started this project back in 2013 and since it's start, it has gained an incredible following across social media (check out the hashtag on Instagram #52listsproject) and now has even been transformed into a book! Well, a journal to be more specific :)
You can check out the 52 Lists Project journal on my retail website mooreaseal.com where I curate over 50 different designers from across the world and donate 7% of all proceeds to non-profits.

I've always been a bit of a list addict.  I feel a million times more peaceful and content with myself when I've got a few lists going, from what I need to do today to my favorite r + b songs from 2002.  The 52 Lists project focuses on list making, lists for fun, lists for self discovery, and so much more.  And it's all about participation!  On my blog, you will find 22 list prompts that I started for the 52 Lists Project back in 2013.  You are welcome to print them out for free and use them throughout the year!

Wondering why there are only 22 lists on my blog? That's because I got the lucky opportunity to turn the 52 Lists Project into a real life journal in 2015, eek! The 52 Lists Project journal is now available at Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, Paper Source, Barnes + Noble, and in my store as well as Amazon and hundreds of other stores and boutiques across the world! How crazy is that! Feel free to just use the 22 free downloads if you prefer, starting with the list below. The online 22 lists are different than the lists in journal I published. And if you are still diggin' the lists after you are done with the free lists, check out my journal below!

So this week, the list prompt is List the Words That Touch Your Soul.  I really liked this as our first list because it starts us off on a positive and reflective note as we begin our list making journey.  It was fun for me to read through the words I wrote down, reflecting on why those words are important to me.  It seems the words that I am most drawn to are more about my singular world and personal experiences.  Maybe because I am an eldest child or because I feel like I grew up and took care of myself at a young age, maybe because I am such an introvert, I don't find a lot of need in others to find my happiness and contentment.  I prefer a LOT of alone time, a few very close relationships, a lot of time to reflect and meditate on my experiences and thoughts, and a lot of quiet time.  I think a lot of the elements that make up who I am ended up in the list along with words that help challenge me to get outside of myself.

Please feel free to download a PDF of Week 1 of 52 Lists above.  You can print out the page and get to work jotting down the words that touch your soul, inspire you, and remind you of who you are.  And feel free to post your lists on your blog, linking back to my blog.  I'd love to follow along with your year of list making too!  Feel freel to leave a link to your lists in the comments so I can check them out or link up your post below.   Each week when I post about 52 Lists, you can come back to the post and link up your own post so that we can all explore each others lists.  You are not required, it's just a fun way to check out each other's lists.

I can't tell you how much I love this! I have always had a thing for making lists, there is something so calming about just writing all sorts of things/thought down without having to articulate them into sentences and paragraphs. However, I find when I get stressed out (like right now..hello exams!) I find it difficult to write lists of anything but tasks, which can add to feeling overwhelmed if that's all you write. These prompts are such a great way to expand a familiar exercise in a positive new way!
I'll start now, and join in the link up next week!

Its so awesome you are studying jewelry design in school. I admire you! So wish I had done that while I was in art school!

Moorea Seal said...

Woohoo! Me too :) It's hard for me to follow through on big plans sometimes so this is my goal for 2013, creating lists that encourage and inspire!

Moorea Seal said...

Yay! Let me know if you post about your list and I'll add it to the list of folks participating!

Moorea Seal said...

TOTALLY. I need lists to survive everyday. I have a million tasks and projects all the time so I need to stay organized. But sometimes I look at my lists and just feel so overwhelmed. So creating lists that inspire and comfort and make me happy are a new necessity in my life to stay sane haha :) Feel free to join the link up anytime!

Sometimes it helps me to relax and to focus on my projects when I take a moment to do something just free of stress, calming, and fun like filling out lists like these. It gets jumbled ideas out of my head so I can focus on the important projects ahead. Good luck!

Moorea Seal said...

YAY! My list got pretty big too! It makes me feel so great knowing I have so many ways to feel comforted and calm. Come back on Tuesdays every week to see the newest list prompt!

Moorea,

Ali Edwards sent me your way, and I LOVE your year of lists idea. I have to say I am not that good at creating lists, although I do them when absolutely necessary! However, my mom, 90 years old and going strong, has always been a list maker. In fact, I've saved many of my favorites of hers for inclusion in an album someday. Thanks for creating this neat way to journal and take a look at myself and my life during the upcoming year.
