Re-Painting My Studio Space

After moving my workspace from my old house into a studio space back in June, I finally got around to painting it yesterday along with the help of a few great friends.  Compared to my tiny 600 sq ft apartment, my workspace is pretty huge, as in it's almost the size of my apartment expect it is just one big room.  As I mentioned awhile ago, I am the Resident Artist at a new community center across from the zoo in Seattle.  Emmanuel church transformed half of their building into a community center and invited a few different folks like me to come in a utilize the space.  We have a few different graphic designers using spaces in the building for their offices/studios and one guy has set up a music studio too.  Throughout the week, a few different bands use the church sanctuary to practice.  And on Sundays, one church meets in the sanctuary and another one meets in the big gym attached to the back of the church.  Every night in one of the downstairs rooms, a shelter is opened up to homeless men to spend the night in.  And during the day in the back of the building, a little preschool is run in a few different classrooms around the gym.  The folks who are running the church and the new community center are just doing an amazing job of giving back to the community so far and I'm excited to see it grow while I'm in this space.  Right now they are even working on getting a non-profit coffeeshop up and running on the other side of the building.  So far it is looking GORGEOUS.

Anyway, onto my space.  It was the former church nursery a few years ago before the church kind of fell to the wayside.  The whole building actually wasn't being used for a few years because no one could figure out how to keep the church alive financially.  And that's why it's now transforming into half church, half community center.  Pretty smart, I think.  I've left the shell of the room pretty much the same as when it was a nursery back in they day:  baby blue walls, ugly ruffled curtains, and a giant mural of a shepherd and a bunch of sheep on one huge wall.  Since June I've just hung a big bulletin board over it which wasn't so great looking.  Scroll down to see...

So finally, a few friends and I gave the room a makeover yesterday.  Hooray!  The walls are now the whitest of white and I now have a giant chalkboard wall which I think will be really fun to play with.  Check out how each area of the room has morphed thanks to some new paint and a little elbow grease. First up, the area in which I have my main desk.

Next up, the mural turns into a chalkboard wall...

A peek into the room full of boxes...

And lastly, a nice view of the funny looking mini curtains...

I am so excited to rearrange the space, get all of the pretty decorations I've been collecting over the past few months in, and set up my space to be the prettiest workspace on earth.  Hooray!  What do you think of the changes so far?

There's seriously nothing better than redecorating/rearranging/recreating a space. And the chalkboard paint?! YES. Can't wait to see more pictures as all your decorations start making their way in there :)

Nice work, lady!
