Strange Beauties by Jen Mann

I stumbled across Jen Mann's artwork recently and realized that I had seen some of her older work a few years ago.  I have to say, her newest series  Strange Beauties is by far my most favorite work she has created.  It's mesmerizing.  Portraiture has always been my favorite type of fine art and I am extremely drawn to artists who explore color in a new way when painting portraits.  I first was drawn to Jen's website because I saw this painting that she let her niece paint on.  I LOVE the rough movement of the hot pink and purple paint and how it integrates into the classically painted face so magically.  Three years ago, rich purples, magentas, hot pinks, and vibrant oranges were my favorite colors.  (Here is a little color palette I created back in 2009.)  So any time some of those colors are used in combination with each other, I still feel so drawn in by their warmth.  And I have to say, these paintings have stolen my heart.  What do you think?

I think I am hypnotized, her work is amazing, making me want to take figure drawing far more seriously than I have.
