Welcome to the very beginning of the 52 Lists Project, and hey there, I'm Moorea Seal!
I started this project back in 2013 and since it's start, it has gained an incredible following across social media and now has even been transformed into a book! Well, a journal to be more specific :) You can check out the 52 Lists Project journal on my retail website mooreaseal.com where I curate over 50 different designers from across the world and donate 7% of all proceeds to non-profits.
I've always been a bit of a list addict. I feel a million times more peaceful and content with myself when I've got a few lists going, from what I need to do today to my favorite r + b songs from 2002. The 52 Lists project focuses on list making, lists for fun, lists for self discovery, and so much more. And it's all about participation! On my blog, you will find 22 list prompts that I started for the 52 Lists Project back in 2013. You are welcome to print them out for free and use them throughout the year!
Wondering why there are only 22 lists on my blog? That's because I got the lucky opportunity to turn the 52 Lists Project into a real life journal in 2015, eek! The 52 Lists Project journal is now available at Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, Paper Source, Barnes + Noble, and in my store as well as Amazon and hundreds of other stores and boutiques across the world! How crazy is that! Feel free to just use the 22 free downloads if you prefer. And if you are still diggin' the lists after you are done with the free lists, check out my book below!
So this week, the list prompt is List the Words That Touch Your Soul. This list prompt was taken from the book List Yourself. I really liked this as our first list because it starts us off on a positive and reflective note as we begin our list making journey. It was fun for me to read through the words I wrote down, reflecting on why those words are important to me. It seems the words that I am most drawn to are more about my singular world and personal experiences. Maybe because I am an eldest child or because I feel like I grew up and took care of myself at a young age, maybe because I am such an introvert, I don't find a lot of need in others to find my happiness and contentment. I prefer a LOT of alone time, a few very close relationships, a lot of time to reflect and meditate on my experiences and thoughts, and a lot of quiet time. I think a lot of the elements that make up who I am ended up in the list along with words that help challenge me to get outside of myself.
Patience . Calm . Wisdom . Community . Open . Light . Quiet . Stillness . Friendship . Comfort . Hug . Trust . Safety . Gentle . Soft . Be. Feel . Know. Sweet . Sense. Kind . Flow . Journey . Float . Warmth . Envelop . Nest . Surround . Blanket . Think . Trees . Intuitive . Roots . Treehouse . Forest . Home . Fireplace . Branches . Mountains . Hold. Wrap . Now
It's funny, as I reflect on the words that I wrote in 2013, they feel so different than the words I am ruminating on in 2014. Last year, I felt alive with fire, passionate, and ready to take on the year ahead. I had plans, lofty goals, and excitement in my soul. So much of what was driving me was an inward drive to push all that was inside of me outward. "Drive, hard work, expanse, universe," those are just a few of the words that defined me just a year ago. And with that energy that I put into the world, woah I got a lot in return, both wonderful and heartbreaking. This year, I feel more turned inward. I'm excited to just push my roots deeper into what I already have around me, in my relationships, my personal life, and in my work. Words like "wrap, surround, nest, quiet, and flow" feel so much more appropriate to my life right now. I just want to be and take in what is in my present. I'd honestly love a nice quiet year ahead, but that's usually not the card that life throws me. So, knowing that my life can be kind of crazy, I can at least just be in the moment right now, focused and quiet, patient and kind, calm and still, creating no twists and turns of my own. When you feel rooted and calm in what you have created, it makes taking the cards that life deals you outside of your control a lot easier :)
Please feel free to download a PDF of Week 1 of 52 Lists above. You can print out the page and get to work jotting down the words that touch your soul, inspire you, and remind you of who you are. And feel free to post your lists on your blog, linking back to my blog. I'd love to follow along with your year of list making too! Feel freel to leave a link to your lists in the comments so I can check them out or link up your post below. Each week when I post about 52 Lists, you can come back to the post and link up your own post so that we can all explore each others lists. You are not required, it's just a fun way to check out each other's lists.
