2013:
I was feeling a bit under the weather yesterday so taking inspiration from not feeling my best, I thought a list of my greatest comforts might be a great prompt for this week's 52 Lists installment! Cozy might be one of my favorite words and feelings of all time. And I just think it is human nature to gravitate to that which is comfortable and comforting. Sometimes, when we are feeling a bit sick, or down, or lost, we need to be reminded of the things that bring us the greatest comfort. Sometimes, having those comforts to go back to help us remember who we are, what we love, and what brings us peace and energy. I think this is a great list to pair with week 1's list, "List the Words that Touch Your Soul." For the first few lists of the series, I want to focus on lists that bring us encouragement, happiness, comfort & peace, lists that we can fall back on whenever we need a little reminder of who we are. So go ahead and print out this list and start writing up all of the things that bring you the greatest comfort! I thought I would only have maybe 5 or 6 methods to finding comfort, but my list kept growing and growing! And now every time I look at my list, I just feel comfort surrounding me as I think of all of the ways that I can grasp comfort in my everyday life.
2014:
Well, it turns out this year I was also sick again this week like in 2013! So comfort was also at the top of my list of current needs. I got the best Christmas present from Max & my two favorite ladies, Jenette & Tram who are both friends and co-workers in my store. They gave me an electric faux stove and I LOVE it so much. Talk about comfort, that thing, as silly as it is, brings me comfort just thinking about it. Stoves remind me of home, of peace and calm and quiet, of family, warmth, and utter comfort perfection. I have spent a lot of time snuggling up next to it this week. My list of things that I find comforting hasn't changed much since 2013. But I do have a few things to add to it:
Sleeping in flannel sheets . My electric stove . The scent of amber/rose/musk/vetiver . The sound of heavy rain . Seeing snow falling outside my window . Remembering how many wonderful friends I have across the world . When Max runs his hands through my hair (something I used to not like at all but now I love.) . Getting to pet and talk to dogs I see out and about, even if their owners think I am weird :) . Listening to any of these albums: Graceland by Paul Simon, Rumors by Fleetwood Mac, The Rushmore Soundtrack, The Seldom Seen Kid by Elbow, Saltbreakers by Laura Veirs and the Saltbreakers, and any of Chanticleer's Christmas albums . Watching crappy reality tv . Drinking hot cocoa . When I'm with my sisters and they are happy . Knowing my parents are well and healthy . Listening to a really old voicemail message from my grandparents before they died . Remembering how proud my grandmother would be of me if she could see me now . Knowing that the people I love accept me fully and understand me well enough . Knowing that I can call multiple places home
